Spring Twilight, Loch na Keal

A gentle spring twilight descends along the shore of Loch na Keal while the sea washes languidly in on the inner hebridean Isle of Mull.

I was lucky enough to be on the island of Mull for ten days or so during April, one of the best months (alongside May) to be out and about in Scotland. As the days lenghten, and still carry the occasional threat of snow, the air quality and light can be superb. This shot was taken around nine at night which gives some idea of the day here this early in the year. Its almost an ideal and allows you to easily capture both the dawn and the dusk without the 4am start 11pm finishes of mid July. Loch na Keal is a wide sea loch on the western side of the island. We are looking almost due west here towards a lone building centre left on the horizon. The gnarled landscape to the right of centre is the island of Inchkenneth, known for its strange connection with Hitler and the rise of English facism during the 1930's and its then owners, the Mitfords. Island idyll indeed in this incredible icelandic fastness.
