Taransay Chop

Posted by Alistair Keddie (Glasgow, United Kingdom) on 13 November 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

The island of Taransay sits astride a shallow and choppy sea offshore of the beach at Luskentyre, South Harris, Western Isles of Scotland.

I love the colours of the sea in the Western Isles. These Caribbean greens that are so surprisingly and unexpectedly Scottish, even on a dull day. Its the colour of the sand that makes them, the contrast that somehow I associate with beach scenes from the West Indies. But its Scotland and part of a unique series of beaches that line the western shores of these islands. Taransay lies just offshore of Luskentyre and what caught my eye in this shot was the meeting of waves coming from opposite directions around the island, and heightened by the spray blowing back from the offshore wind.
