Berneray West

Posted by Alistair Keddie (Glasgow, United Kingdom) on 7 November 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

North along the western edge of Berneray in the Outer Hebrides with the extensive coastal dunes lit strongly by late evening sun and looking towards the hills of Harris under streamers of white cloud.

The beach on the west coast of Berneray is possibly the finest in Scotland and I returned here after a previous year's visit with a clear idea of what I wanted from the magic and intense coastal light that falls on these islands of an evening in late July. The conditions on the first night were as close to perfect as this part of the world allows, with low slanting sun lighting the beach and dunes in a golden pinkish light, gently tinting the cloud streams above and painting the hills of Harris in the distance, the start of a long evening shooting in this unique and pristine environment in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.

Welcome to big Alba photography and the fine art photographic work of Alistair Keddie, a photographer, artist and animated film maker from Scotland with a deep passion for photographing the landscape.
