Aonach Eagach Ridge

Posted by Alistair Keddie (Glasgow, United Kingdom) on 1 November 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Alpenglow lights the Aonach Eagach Ridge spectacularly red as dusk settles over a wintry Glencoe with a snow dappled Ben Nevis, Britains highest mountain, behind.

The night turned bitterly cold as I made my descent, well pleased with the view I'd had of the Aonach Eagach Ridge, reputedly, the finest mountain hike in mainland Britain and topped with clear views of Ben Nevis, our highest hill. I'd wanted to get myself up here again for some time but somehow the weather just never seemed to coincide until, after spending ten days in the surrounding area I got my chance. Taken in mid December, the shot looks north from the just below the summit of Stob Coire nan Lochan, over Aonach Dubh to the main ridge on the opposite side of Glencoe and shows its entire traverse lit with a strong and intense red light from the setting sun.
